A 26-year-old man killed his father in North Delhi’s Timarpur area over a dispute about not getting the front seat in a tempo. The shocking incident occurred when the family had hired an auto to travel to their native village in Uttarakhand, according to a police officer.

The accused, identified as Deepak, was arrested at the scene. Police also recovered the firearm used in the crime along with 11 live cartridges. The shooting happened around 7:30 pm on Thursday near the MS Block in Timarpur. Patrolling officers who heard the gunfire rushed to the scene and found the victim lying on the footpath in a pool of blood, while local residents were attempting to wrest the gun from the accused.

The victim was identified as Surendra Singh, 60, a retired sub-inspector from CISF. He was rushed to HRH Hospital where doctors declared him dead. He had sustained a gunshot wound on the left cheek while several other bullet wounds were on the face. Initial investigations revealed that the family was preparing to shift to their native village in Uttarakhand after Surendra Singh retired from CISF six months ago.

The source said they hired a tempo and loaded their luggage in it. Then an argument broke out between Surendra and Deepak over who would sit in the front seat. When Surendra insisted on sitting in the front seat as the luggage was loaded, Deepak got aggressive and brought his father’s licensed gun and shot him, killing him, the police source said.
