Traffic Advisory for Jammu & Kashmir – May 16, 2025
The TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR, has released an updated travel advisory for May 16, 2025, outlining the latest guidelines for vehicle movement on major highways and roads throughout Jammu & Kashmir. Commuters are advised to remain vigilant and plan their travel carefully in light of the current conditions.
Traffic Update (May 14–15, 2025)
From 5:00 PM on May 14 to 5:00 PM on May 15, 2025, traffic movement on National Highway-44 (NH-44) remained slow due to several factors:
- Breakdown of seven heavy motor vehicles (HMVs)
- Movement of 12 nomadic herds
- Single-lane traffic at Dalwas, Peeda, Mehad, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather
- Ongoing construction work for road widening to four lanes
Traffic is being closely managed, especially at Mehad, Cafeteria, and Ramban, where narrow road stretches (150–200 meters) are causing bottlenecks. Drivers are urged to strictly follow lane discipline and refrain from overtaking or using the wrong lane to help reduce traffic congestion.
Important Advisory for Commuters
- Daytime travel only is recommended on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW, especially between Ramban and Banihal, due to risks of shooting stones.
- Operators of goods carriers (HMVs/LMVs) transporting perishables or livestock must follow advisories issued by the Traffic Police and avoid overloading.
- All vehicles must be roadworthy and carry sufficient fuel before starting the journey.
- Only 6 and 10-tyre HMVs are permitted via Dhar Road.
- Avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially in landslide-prone zones.
