
Schools, colleges in several JK districts, nearby airport to remain closed on Thursday
Gurez educational institutions to stay closed; KU defers exams till May 10
Srinagar, May 08 (KNO): Due to the ongoing situation, authorities announced on Wednesday that all schools and colleges in various districts of Jammu and Kashmir — including Gurez and areas near the Srinagar airport — will remain closed on Thursday. Additionally, Kashmir University has postponed all exams scheduled up to May 10.
In a statement to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said that all educational institutions in the vicinity of Srinagar airport were directed to remain closed on Wednesday.
He added that schools and colleges in Baramulla, Kupwara, and the Gurez valley will also stay shut on Thursday. Bidhuri reiterated that educational institutions in the Gurez valley will remain closed on Thursday as well.
In the meantime, the divisional administration in Jammu has also ordered the closure of educational institutions in five districts, including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch.
“In view of the prevailing situation, all schools, colleges & educational institutions (private as well as government) in the districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch will remain closed tomorrow also: Div Com Jammu,” the Jammu admin said.
Meanwhile, the University of Kashmir (KU) has also postponed all the exams that were scheduled to be held till May 10.
The assistant controller of KU said in an order, “It is hereby notified that all examinations of the University of Kashmir scheduled to be held up upto and including 10.05.2025 stand postponed.”
Cluster University Srinagar also said that the examinations of the varsity scheduled on 07-05-2025 are postponed. “Fresh dates for the postponed papers shall be notified separately.” —(KNO)
