Srinagar, Apr 03 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government has increased the financial assistance under the State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) for underprivileged girls, raising the amount from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 for families holding Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration cards.
As per an official order, a copy of which was obtained by Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the assistance for families with Priority Household (PHH) ration cards will remain unchanged at Rs 50,000. This new arrangement will take effect from April 1, 2025.
The order further specifies that the financial aid will be directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) before the marriage. The scheme is applicable exclusively to eligible AAY and PHH ration cardholders, aimed at providing financial support for marriage expenses to those from economically weaker sections. (KNO)
