Recently, some changes have been made, but they apply only to Maharashtra. Starting today (April 1, 2025), the Maharashtra government has made FASTag mandatory at all toll plazas. The goal is to reduce traffic congestion at toll booths, and cash payments will no longer be accepted.
If a vehicle does not have an active FasTag, then double toll can be charged from it. But it cannot be stopped from traveling in this. However, double tax can be levied as a penalty. In such a situation, you can cross the toll by doing a cash transaction. This will be done in case there is no FasTag.
Know what is FasTag?
Let us tell you that FastTag is an electronic tag, which is installed on the front glass of the vehicle. We also have to recharge it from time to time on the same side. Just like we do our mobile phone. Whenever a vehicle leaves the toll plaza, the machine installed at the toll scans the tag installed on the vehicle. Then the money is automatically deducted from the wallet recharged with the card. After installing this tag on the vehicle, you do not need to stop at the toll and get a slip. There are many small toll plazas in Maharashtra where there is no facility of FasTag. Now the government is making it mandatory. Along with this, the entire system is also being updated.
