On Thursday, authorities shut down Mughal Darbar in Bemina, Srinagar, following an unexpected inspection that uncovered unsanitary conditions, expired food products, and the unlawful use of domestic gas cylinders instead of commercial ones. The operation was led by Naib Tehsildar Aleen Ali Sofi, with the support of police officers and officials from several departments.
During the inspection, officials discovered expired food items, including some with visible fungus, posing serious health risks to customers. The team also found domestic LPG cylinders being misused in place of commercial ones, a violation of safety norms. Following the findings, the eatery and its adjoining bakery shop were immediately sealed.
In addition to sealing Mughal Darbar, the team also inspected various shops in the area, instructing vendors to display rate lists and refrain from overcharging customers, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking on the occasion, Naib Tehsildar Aleen Ali Sofi warned shopkeepers and vendors against selling food items, fruits, and vegetables at inflated prices. He assured strict action against violators, emphasising that authorities will continue market inspections to prevent any exploitation of consumers.
