Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that pensioners need not be afraid while responding in the Rajya Sabha. He clarified that the changes made in the Finance Bill are only for validating the old rules. This will not reduce pension benefits. She also said that all pensioners got equal benefits in the 7th Pay Commission, irrespective of their retirement date.

Sitharaman said there was a difference in the 6th Pay Commission, but in the 7th Pay Commission, all pensioners were given equal pensions. The same policy will be adopted in the 8th Pay Commission so that no employee or pensioner is left behind.
