In contrast, the department’s expenditure during this period was just Rs 20.23 crore, highlighting a substantial net profit.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) recorded an even more impressive revenue collection. From April 2024 to December 2024, the JKRTC amassed Rs 1813.11 lakh in revenue, while the expenditure during this period stood at over Rs 115.69 crore.

The data suggests a healthy financial state for the transport sector, with a joint revenue (MVD + JKRTC) touching Rs 964 crore, while the expenditure is 135.92 crore and the net surplus is Rs 828.08 crore—the data was disclosed in a written response to a query raised by MLA Thakur Randhir Singh.

In response to another question regarding parameters for starting a new bus service, the minister in charge said that multiple factors are considered, including regulatory approvals, logistics, route surveys, road connectivity, public demand, and financial feasibility.
