SRINAGAR: On Friday evening, Jammu and Kashmir’s Grand Mufti, Nasir ul Islam, declared that the holy month of Ramzan will begin on Sunday, March 2, 2025, as there were no reports of moon sightings from any area.
Following a meeting at Jama Masjid, Delhi, Markazi Royat-E-Hilal of Committee of India also confirmed that no credible reports of moon sightings were received from any part of the country. Based on Islamic tradition, the first fast will therefore be observed on Sunday.
The crescent moon was not sighted on Friday evening, Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced.
Muslims across the region will now prepare for a month of fasting, and prayer which will conclude with Eid-ul-Fitr, depending on the next moon sighting.
